Happy Easter! It was cold here today but a great day for taking photos. I left Beaune and went up to Châteauneuf, or Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, and passed through some beautiful countryside. Tons of fields of rapeseed, the bright yellow member of the mustard family. I also had to stop a couple of times and take some pix of some friendly horses. I am such a dumbass I just whistled and clucked and called just like they were my cats and lo and behold... they came! I got to Chateauneuf and there is indeed a chateau there. And I found my first kitty. Again, he came when I whistled and was so sweet. That photo of him on the castle moat wall is destined to be one of my favorites. His fur was so soft! The lovely black kitty bid me farewell and on my way to Dijon. I spent a couple of hours toodling around in Dijon and being Easter Sunday it was deserted. I did take in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, which is in an old ducal palace (the dukes of Burgundy) and it was open on Easter Sunday... and free. Many museums in France are free. Lots of medieval religious artwork. I've only included one sarcophagus with angels I thought was cool. The couple in the cafe looked like they were having a serious discussion but the (beautiful) dog was totally bored with it.
Of course, Dijon has some very nice architecture (notice the colored tile roof, like the one in Beaune...another favorite of the dukes of Burgundy. The two stained glass windows are in the cathedral.
And yes...you can buy any flavor mustard you want! They sell the brand I buy at home (Henri Maille) but about 1/2 the price here.
Awesome colors and buildings. I loved the horses nuzzling each other. I would have been a dumbass, too, calling them over to greet them. Nyurk!
